Underwriting Manager – Marine
Responsibilities
As an Underwriting Manager – Marine, you lead the underwriting team and are accountable for the results of an assigned portfolio. You monitor profitability, guide the development of the team, and ensure professional execution of the underwriting strategy.
In practice, this means you will:
- Coach, support, and develop underwriters and contribute to training and development programs.
- Advise management on underwriting policies and pricing strategies.
- Oversee and manage the application of policies and pricing for all risks within the portfolio.
- Prepare and present operational reports to management.
- Lead and monitor regional and branch initiatives and strategies.
- Coordinate and support the marketing of products and services through brokers.
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships to achieve positive and profitable outcomes.
- Stay informed on market developments, regulations, and trends, participating in industry groups when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Profile
You are an experienced professional with deep technical knowledge of Marine underwriting and strong team leadership skills. You combine analytical insight with a commercial and relationship-oriented mindset.
You bring:
- Proven experience in managing an underwriting team.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting processes, and technical expertise.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities for complex issues.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant business software.
